All I Want Is Yule Tutorial
Recommended: Watch the video once through for an overview and what to expect. Then, use our step-by-step written guide while making, referring to the video as needed. Do the kit in one sitting as air dry clay will dry over time. If you're new to soft air dry clay, please read our Basics of Soft Air Dry Clay page.
Time Needed: Approx 1-1.5 hours
Tools:
• 4 clay colors
• Toothpick
• Scissors (optional, not provided in pack)
• Non-stick work surface
Step 1: Cake Base
Grab a handful of brown and white clay, there should be more brown than white. Stretch and condition the clay till smooth, then roll into a long cylinder shape each.
Tip: Work with the white first, to prevent any brown color on your hands from transferring to the white.
Step 2
Using the palm of your hand, flatten each cylinder evenly. If there are hand prints, you may want to use the side facing the table for a smoother finish.
Step 3
Stack the shorter white slab on top of the brown slab, lining them up on one end, and with the brown extending beyond the white on the other end. Roll them together slowly. If the brown ends up being too long, you may use a scissors to cut the brown clay to the length you want.
Step 4
Using the toothpick, gently make short strokes along the length of the log cake to imitate the wood texture. It does not need to be perfectly neat! We are now done with the cake base, great job!
Step 5: Cream
To make the cream, roll a small ball of white. Flatten the bottom, and pinch the top to get a conical like shape. Using a toothpick, make line indents around the shape to form the cream.
Step 6: Leaves
Roll a tiny ball of green, then roll it into a cylinder like shape. Press down to form a flattened oval. Use a toothpick to make a line along the length of the oval for the leaf. Repeat and make 2 leaves in total.
Step 7: Berries
This one's easy! Roll 3 small balls of red for the berries. That's it!
Step 8: Assemble
Time to join them all up! If your clay has gone dry and is not sticking together, dip it in a little bit of water on the ends. The water will help the clay stick. Apply a slight pressure to help the parts adhere. And you're finished! Let your creation air dry for about 2 days, and will last as long as you do not wet it :) Merry Christmas!
